ropework fids and gardening dibbers These traditional hardwood pieces are turned on the lathe and finished by hand. Traditional ash and other hardwood fids are used to separate the strands of rope when splicing or can be used to aid in undoing particularly stubborn knots. Gardening dibbers are of a similar shape and are used to make a hole in the soil where small seedlings, bulbs or seeds may be planted. Due to the nature of the environment in which these items are to be used an appropriate sealant should be applied on a regular basis to protect the timber. |
